CDLI Framework Update
NEH-funded rebuild of the Cuneiform Digital Library Initiative platform at UCLA, 2017–2022.
- Role: Project Manager and acting Principal Investigator, UCLA, with Robert K. Englund
- Funding: National Endowment for the Humanities, grant HAA-256224-17, about US$140,000
The project rebuilt the CDLI on a modular, open-source framework (GitLab) with an API, converters and validators for cuneiform data formats (ATF, TEI, CoNLL, Brat), expanded documentation, and Docker-based deployment mirrored at partner institutions. The interface was designed for accessibility and shaped by user surveys and testing, in close collaboration with the MTAAC team in Toronto.
The new platform underpins all later CDLI work. In 2024 the site reached 2 million views, ten times its earlier traffic.
